 Deputy Sheriff Requirements

​The Northampton County Sheriff's Department is searching for capable, energetic men and women who are up to the challenge to be their best. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old, have authorization to be employed in the United States, and have completed at least sixty credits from an accredited college or two full years full-time experience as a certified deputy sheriff, police officer or two years full-time active duty service in the United States Military. Individuals who possess Pennsylvania Act 2 (Deputy Sheriff Academy Training) or Act 120 (Municipal Police Officers Academy Training) will be preferred.  

The Northampton County Sheriff's Department utilizes a standardized selection process to test and hire new Deputy Sheriffs. The first step is to register to take a written examination, administered by the Northampton County Human Resources Department, when a position(s) becomes available. The link below will enable interested parties to obtain information as to open positions and testing. Should an applicant pass the written examination and be eligible for consideration, the applicant shall be contacted by the Sheriff's Department to participate in a competitive selection process, which shall include, in sequential order, a Physical Fitness Agility Test, a Background Investigation, an Oral Interview, a Polygraph Examination, a Psychological Examination and a Medical Examination. Should an applicant fail any phase of the selection process, he or she shall be removed from consideration.
