Appellate Unit
This unit is responsible for handling all direct appeals following sentencing as well as all collateral appeals resulting from Post Conviction Relief Act petitions, regardless of the types of crimes involved. This unit also handles all collateral appeals filed in federal court, including petitions for writs of habeas corpus.
Domestic Violence Unit
The members of this unit handle all violent offenses that are committed between family members, household members, and current/former intimate partners.This unit deals most often with crimes such as strangulation, aggravated assault, stalking, terroristic threats, simple assault, and harassment.
Drug Enforcement/Drug Task Force Unit
This unit is responsible for prosecuting all drug-related offenses arising under Title 35, including drug delivery resulting in death, possession of controlled substances, possession with intent to deliver, and prostitution. This unit works closely with the Northampton County Drug Task Force to proactively investigate and prosecute drug-related crime in the area. This unit is also responsible for handling drug-related forfeiture petitions.
Driving Under the Influence ("DUI") Unit
The members of this unit prosecute all offenses arising out of violations of the Motor Vehicle Code, as well as underage drinking offenses. Typical types of cases in this unit include DUI, fleeing and eluding, and vehicular homicide.
Grand Jury Unit
This unit is responsible for selecting, managing, and appearing before the Northampton County Investigating Grand Jury. The Grand Jury, which is comprised of Northampton County residents, is responsible for investigating criminal matters within the county and often examines cold cases and complex crimes.
Juvenile Crimes Unit
The members of this unit handle criminal matters of any type that are prosecuted through the juvenile justice system. They are also responsible for handling certification proceedings to transfer matters to the Court of Common Pleas and approving juveniles for diversionary programs.
Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit
This unit prosecutes offenses under Chapters 29, 30, 31, 59, 63, and 76, as well as any case where a child is the victim. Crimes often handled by this unit include rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, physical child abuse, and corruption of minors. This unit is also responsible for post-conviction Act 29 hearings to determine registration requirements for sexual offenders.
Violent Crime Unit
This unit prosecutes offenses arising under Chapters 25-29, 32, 37, 51B, 51C, and 61 of the Crimes Code. This includes crimes such as homicide, robbery, escape, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and firearms-related offenses.
White Collar/Deception/Fraud Unit
The members of this unit prosecute all fraud-related offenses, including burglary, theft, forgery, bribery, and perjury. This unit also prosecutes arson cases and animal abuse cases. This unit is also responsible for overseeing the Bad Check Restitution Program.
