Passport Hours

The Northampton County Prothonotary is an official acceptance agent for U.S. Passports. This a walk-in service which does not require an appointment.

You may apply for your passport in the office if :  

1. You are a first time passport applicant

2. You are a minor wishing to renew your passport 

3. You have an adult passport that has been expired for five years

For all other renewal inquiries please visit travel.state.gov

 

You may obtain the application online or in our office.  You may complete the application in advance, however you must wait to sign the application in the presence of the Acceptance Agent.

 

Processing times:

Processing times vary depending on demand.  For up-to-date processing times please check with travel.state.gov.  As a general guide, regular processing is approximately 6 weeks.  Expedite processing is approximately 3 weeks.

     Requirements

    For new adult passports (ages 18 and older):

    • Original U. S. birth certificate with both parents names or original U.S. Naturalization certificate
    • Government issued photo ID
    • Passport picture (click here for picture requirements)
            • Money order or check for U. S. Department of State and a separate payment of money order or cash for Prothonotary's processing fee.

    Young adults ages 16 and 17 are charged the adult passport fee. (Only one parent needs to be present to sign for young adults 16 and 17 years of age.)

    For new/renewal minor passports (ages 15 and younger):

    • Provide original and copy of birth certificate with both parents names (Effective January 9, 2017 - it is the customer's responsibility to provide a photocopy of the citizenship evidence at the time of application acceptance.)
    • Government issued photo ID of both parents
    • Both parents and the child must be present
    • Passport picture (click here for picture requirements)
      • * Renewals must be accompanied with the child's old passport and their birth certificate
            • Money order or check for U. S. Department of State and a separate payment of money order or cash for Prothonotary's processing fee.

    PASSPORT BOOK

    Adult (16+)................... $110

    Minor (under age 16)..... $80

    PASSPORT CARD

    Adult (16+)................... $30

    Minor (under age 16)..... $15

    ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

    Expedite processing ........ $60

    Overnight delivery .......... $15.45

    Passport book/ card fees should be in the form of check or money order made payable to:

    U. S. Department of State

     

    SEPARATE PROCESSING FEE

    All application processing fees (Adult / Minor) are $25 / per application

    Processing fees should be in the form of cash or money order made payable to: Clerk of Civil Court

    • Real ID information.  Real ID will be required for domestic travel beginning January 22, 2018. At this time, Pennsylvania is a non-compliant state for the Real ID drivers license and a U S Passport card/book will be required for domestic travel.
