Administration of Various Exemption and Abatement Programs
1 Preferential Assessments (Act 319) The Pennsylvania Farmland and Forest Land Assessment Act, commonly known as Act 319 or the "Clean and Green" law, was first used during the 1976 tax year. A pamphlet may be obtained from the Assessment Office explaining all of the rules and regulations.
2. Exemption law and procedure in Pennsylvania. An instruction sheet may be obtained from the Assessment Office containing all of the data involved in applying for an exemption. This instruction sheet also makes reference to the five criteria required to apply for the exemption.
3.LERTA Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance Act Codified at 72 P.S. #4722. This particular program is available in the following areas:
City of Bethlehem Glendon Borough Palmer Township
Additional information may be obtained from each of the above municipalities concerning the geographic allowable areas within each district.
Tax Roll Certification The tax roll certification on or before November 15 of each year to all municipalities. The month of April deals with certification for schools. The beginning of each year, the office also sends out notification of real estate values, plus the number and value for each municipality of each Act 66 property, representing the utilities within each municipality.
Access to GIS Retrieval System The public, through use of the GIS stations, located in the Assessment Office, may view maps on screen and obtain printouts at a nominal cost.
Public Information Assessment Access System The public, through use of the CAMA system, has inquiry access to ail public records contained in Assessment. The types of information listed pertains to name, address, parcel identification, and values. Sales information is also available in a different format.
Taking of application and maintenance for Revenue Appeals Hearings
PLEASE NOTE THE FILING DEADLINE FOR ALL ANNUAL APPEALS HAS CHANGED FROM SEPTEMBER 1 TO AUGUST 1
Applications are generally taken within two areas for value. A forty (40) day appeal, when a value changes during the year, due to new construction or for any other reason. Our Office may be contacted Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The Assessment Office is closed on various major holidays during the year. This schedule does vary from year to year.
